This artist book gives insight into Julia Schuster’s artistic process, poetic writing and research leading to her solo exhibition ‘Full Circle Half Knowledge’. The exhibition culminated her 10-month artist residency at the boarding school Marlborough College 2017-2018 in the ancient landscape of Wiltshire, UK.
Comprising an essay, an interview with the artist, various short texts as well as performance photography by Sylvain Deleu, Schuster’s first artist book illustrates how thinking through making with clay and writing uniquely complement and inform each other in her meditative, personal and evolving practice.
The book captures how the year living in the immersive boarding school environment challenged her methodology as an artist and deepened her connection to clay by bringing together new work that aligns body, object and nature.
The artist book is a piece of art in itself thanks to the thoughtful and beautifully reduced book design by Martin Verdross.
