The Skin of Porcelain
Porcelain h 9. 4 cm x 24 cm x 29 cm; MDF panels, beech, h 135 cm x 40 cm x 40 cm, 2013
Installation exploring the haptic dimension of porcelain’s surface,
fostering experience based design. I experimented with surface structures
by creating different porcelain tiles, testing how blind and seeing people would perceive them.
Five selected textures were recreated in a designed form with various possibilities for touching and handling it. Being hidden from sight in boxes, a tactile exploration of these shapes and their respective surface is encouraged.
In an age of increasing estrangement from manual skills my work aims at restoring a relationship with our own corporality and the physicalness of things by means of touch.
