Porcelain, yarn, h 19 x dia 9 cm

Inspired by the reduced simplicity of Japanese stab bookbinding I address the question of functionality versus art in ceramics today, looking at its oldest form, the vessel. By combining a simple shaped industrial bowl with stitching I ask the viewer to look again at the vessel, raising questions about their utility and in what context they can sit. Does the accentuated border of the vessel make it an ornament or is it a functioning object?
